Johan Bloom is a multidisciplinary artist with a main focus on painting. From early career watercolour bird book illustrations to the more recent exploration of the human condition. He has developed a distinctive style where the large colourful canvases are habited by stylised human figures. 

Swedish born (1964), brought up in Botswana and Mozambique, Southern Africa has since been in the centre of his artwork. He is currently sharing his time between Eastern Cape, South Africa, and the West Coast of Sweden. 

Johan is a painter that is largely self-taught, with African art as a theme throughout his life. After a one-year academic art schooling at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, his restless and free soul made him return to Southern Africa. He worked as an apprentice with Mozambicans artist such as Malangatana and Naguib, and travelled to sculpturers in Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa. A working life with art, projects, teaching and handicraft. His work can be found in Europe, The US, Southern Africa, Australia as well as China, Taiwan and Russia.
